Moving averages

A rolling average of price that smooths noise. The relationship between price and its averages describes trend posture.

A simple moving average weights every day in the window equally; an exponential moving average weights recent days more heavily, so it turns sooner.

What matters is posture: price above a rising average is an uptrend, price below a falling average is a downtrend, and price chopping across a flat average is a range where trend signals are least reliable.

Autonium reads the 20-, 50- and 200-day relationship together, which is why a name can be above one average and still score poorly on technical trend.

On Autonium pages this feeds the Technical trend factor.
