Momentum
The tendency for recent relative performance to persist. Measured as rate of change over multiple lookbacks.
Momentum asks a narrow question: is this name outperforming or underperforming, and is that gap widening or closing?
Because it is measured over several windows at once, a name can carry positive twelve-month momentum while its one-month momentum has already turned — a divergence that often precedes a change in posture.
It is a probability statement about persistence, not a prediction about any single day.
